AI search visibility for founders
Is anyone actually doing this, what did one measured month cost them, and is it worth founder time?
Measured: at least 10 runs per engine, spent adaptively, across 5 AI engines · 95% confidence interval on every figure · open data (DOI 10.5281/zenodo.21612952 (opens in a new tab)) · how we measure
Is this worth founder time yet
It is worth an hour to find out and rarely worth a quarter to chase. The signal that matters is whether buyers in your category ask assistants before they ask people -- which is category-dependent and measurable, not a matter of opinion. Developer tooling and B2B software are further along than most. If the measurement says the assistants already answer your category confidently and name three competitors, you are being pre-filtered before anyone reaches your site, and no amount of pipeline work downstream recovers that. If it says the category is thin, you have time.
What one measured month actually produces
A dated baseline across the engines, with the runs attached. A short ordered list of changes with the reasoning for each. The same measurement repeated, so a move is either visible or it is not. What it does not produce is a clean causal story: a month is usually too short to separate a real change from run-to-run variance, and we report that rather than dressing it up. Founders tend to find the baseline more useful than the fixes, because it settles an argument that otherwise runs on vibes.
We are building this in public
The measurement system, the method and the corrections are published as they happen, including the parts that did not work. That is partly principle and partly self-interest: a measurement business that hides its method is asking for trust it has not earned. Our own numbers are posted with their intervals and their as-of dates on the same terms we apply to clients. Where we have not yet measured something -- and there is plenty -- the surface says so instead of filling the space.
When to ignore us
If you have no product-market fit, this is a distraction; assistants recommending you into a leaky funnel changes nothing. If your buyers find you through a channel you already control, fix that channel first. Be wary of a tool that promises guaranteed AI rankings: the guarantee cannot be honoured by anyone, including us. Measure, decide on the measurement, and spend the time somewhere it compounds.
What counts as proof for this reader
Build-in-public numbers with their CIs, including the ones that did not work.
No figure is quoted on this page. The measured figures live where their runs, intervals and capture dates live: the AI Visibility Index and the methodology.
Follow the build -- the numbers are posted as they land.
A free AI-Visibility Teardown measures where you are recommended and where you are not — across the 5 AI engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and Grok — plus Google's AI surfaces (AI Overviews & AI Mode), measured separately — reproducibly, with the raw runs attached. No call.
